"Eden"
by Alexander Beedy
Dessert plane - valley dry
Sweeping erosion - top soil slides
Barren dunes with ripples laid
The sun reflects - the horizon fades
Like gasses exhaled from the Earth
With bellows weeping human birth
Sand arises - molecules combine
Out from the world of imaginative kind
A stretch of a finger
Extension of a hand
Soon the head - the body
Adam stands -
Alone in question
From dismay to anger
He rips from his flesh
A rib of the body
To relieve ambivalence upon the breast
Discarding the rib so fiercely and strong
He begins to see
That the rib in his hand is the hand of Eve
Bewildered by the sight
Of the two within the light
They rest from exhaustion
And sleep in the world they are lost in
Hours pass as dreams come to them
A beautiful valley for miles stemmed
And as they wake - their reverie is true
A Garden of Eden - she and he are imbued
