"Thunder"
by Alexander Beedy
A silent moment for prayer
For man, woman, and child
Before the steel birds fly
Before emotion is exiled
Before the silos erupt in fuel,
The orbits become the eye,
And natural born leaders
Become stronger than they cry.
Before a time when guilt
Becomes a moments rest,
And a moments rest
Is all but a memory
Before it is a time of pain
When sight can kill,
And all aspirations
Become diminishing reveries.
So before mortality we see,
The aggression of another Blitzkrieg
Let us breath - a breath
And place all those in mind,
Men, women, and God help us, children
That plead their life on the front line.
May it be air
May it be sea
May it be land upon which they bleed
We must never forget
Nor dilute
The red for the blood
And the white we pray
As blue makes the glory
and God makes each day
